The Theatre. Toulouse-Lautrec brings to life the cultural and urban world of the Parisian cabarets and of the district of Montmartre through the work of the French painter. ARTIKA worked together with the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec of Albi on this artist’s book, numbered and limited to 2,998 copies.
The Art Book features 30 lithographs that reproduce scenes and characters depicted by the artist during his many trips to the theatres. These plates, which feature the seal of the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec, are glued onto a triptych and are supplemented with fragments from the theatrical works portrayed in the illustrations, reviews from the time or comments by the artist himself.
The Study Book offers an in-depth evaluation by Danièle Devynck, Julien Dumas and Valèria Gaillard of the artistic career of Toulouse-Lautrec, and includes an analysis of all the plates in the work. Finally, the volume Montmartre immerses us in the legendary 19th-century Parisian district and its bohemian atmosphere, featuring exclusive material and testimonies from the age compiled by Oscar Jané.
The three volumes that make up the work can be displayed in a case that opens up to resemble a stage, a clear reference to the theatre and to the world of shows that inspired Toulouse-Lautrec so profoundly.
