ARTIKA'S COLLECTION

A unique, unrepeatable edition of an original sculpture created specially by Jaume Plensa for ARTIKA. A true work of art that gives us the opportunity to appreciate one of the world’s most influential sculptors.

ARTIKA presents a limited, numbered work – 998 copies in Arabic numerals, and 200 in Roman numerals – and all of them signed individually by the artist himself. The sculpture also features Plensa’s original signature in bas-relief.

This stunning sculpture, which has been conceived as a case in two sections that can be closed and held shut by a system of hidden magnets, shows the face of a girl with her eyes closed. Anna, the girl in question, is a constant image in Plensa’s work, with her countenance that transmits a sense of serenity, and emphasises the concept of inner beauty.

The large-format Artist’s Book takes us on a visual journey through the most recent years of the artist’s work. A wide selection of photographs interspersed with reflections by Plensa himself and quotes from famous writers. For display purposes, the piece comes with a black resin stand that features the artist’s name in relief.

Devised by Rafael Argullol, the Study Book is an indispensable work of reference for anyone wishing to discover and truly understand the work of Jaume Plensa and his evolution.

Conceived by the poet of sculpture, this work is filled with subtle details that change according to the direction of the light.

STEPS PRODUCTION PROCESS

The drawings are set down in a layout that is subsequently digitalised. A drill is used to create the original aluminium mould.

After it has been approved by the sculptor, the mould is then injected with polyurethane resin. Once the resin has set, the piece is removed from the mould.

Each sculpture is given a white polished pigment coating finish, after which it is carefully polished by hand.

58 - Process 4

The original mould includes Jaume Plensa’s signature in bas-relief.

58 - Process 5

The books, devised and individually signed by the artist, are hand-sewn using high quality natural thread.

58 - Process 6

After the copies have been numbered, experts carefully bind each volume by hand.

58 - Process 7

The bookbinder attaches the embossed covers, taking maximum care with all the details.

The stand, which features a typeface that has been specially created by the sculptor, is produced manually by filling a mould with liquid black resin.

BIOGRAPHY

Jaume Plensa

(1955) The multitalented artist experiments with sculpture and engraving and is one of the best-known Spanish visual artists on the international stage. His early works – large sculptures moulded with many different materials, including iron, glass, and resin – played with the ideas of volume, space and tension. He is an artist who has always placed great importance on his literary benchmarks and his own inner world. One of the most important parts of Plensa’s work takes place in the field of sculpture, mainly sculpture in public space. His sculptures can be found in some of the leading countries in the art world, including the United States, Germany, Japan, England, Canada, and France.
